What to do if you have been in a car accidnet.

1.) Be Prepared to do the things on this list.
2.) Call the Police. No matter how minor the accident, an official report will assist you later when a claim is filed.
3.) Turn Off Your Vehicle At The Scene of An Accident, call an ambulance if someone had been injured and take all possible precautions to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of those involved.
4.) Get The Names of All Witnesses. Be sure to get addresses, phone numbers and a brief statement from each witness.
5.)Take Notes on how the accident occurred and draw a diagram.
6.) Remain At the Scene to complete the tasks above unless you are injured.
7.) File Reports The police will provide each driver in the accident with a form (FR-10) where each driver is required to prove they have insurance.  You must file the FR-10 and report the accident within 15 days to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (The lawyers at Howell and Christmas, LLC provide this service as a courtsey to our clients.)
8.) Contact Your Lawyer. There are many pitfalls that can arise when you have been in a car accident. Seek legal advice immediately to learn and protect your rights.
9.) Notify Your Insurance Company. Your attorney can do this for you.  Failure to report the accident in a timely fashion can affect your rights.

Attorney Christmas Obtains a $400,000 Award for an Injured Longshoresman

Howell & Christmas, LLC is pleased to announce that their attorney Gary Christmas has obtained a $400,000.00 award for a longshoreman that injured his back when he was performing lashing duties aboard a ship when a steel lashing rod from a container that was being hoisted by a crane came loose and stuck client across his back and left shoulder.  Attorney Christmas was able to get the employer's insurance company to agree to be responsible for paying all of the claimant's past medical bills.  He was also able to have the employer's insurance carrier to agree to pay the worker's continued medical care and treatment until medical care set aside savings accounts, funded by the employer's insurance company, could be established for future medical care and treatment for his injuries to his back.

Our client was awarded the South Carolina maximum benefits allowed in his case for the back injury he sustained on the job.  Attorney Gary Christmas represented the injured worker and noted that this award is significant because it can assist our client with making the transition to another career that is much less physically demanding.
