Kindergartner Injured In Hit And Run

A 5-year-old boy on a bicycle was injured in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday evening.

Investigators are still currently searching for the driver responsible for hitting the child on Leman Drive, approximately a mile south of Anderson at around 8:16 p.m.

The boy was transported to AnMed Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash and are currently searching for a driver described as being possibly Hispanic, driving a burgundy Ford Taurus that is possibly missing the passenger-side headlight. The car is described as having a paper licensing tag.

There is no worse nightmare for a parent than to know that their child has been injured in an accident. Letting them out into the world can be difficult enough, but to think that someone could harm a child and then callously drive away from the scene is almost unthinkable.

For a driver, it can be difficult to fight the instinct of fight or flight. Even though an accident is a horrible thing to have to face and own up to, no one should ever flee the scene. Whether it is fear or another factor it’s against the law to leave the scene of an accident without at least exchanging insurance information. It is even more important, and in many states, a requirement to stay and render aid if there are nay victims who have been hurt until you are released by law enforcement officers.
